Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita

The Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is India’s updated criminal procedure law, replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure. It came into force on 1 July 2024 to modernize and streamline the criminal justice process.

BNSS focuses on improving the efficiency, transparency, and speed of investigations and trials. It introduces provisions for the use of technology such as e-FIR, digital evidence, and video conferencing in legal proceedings. The law emphasizes time-bound investigations, faster delivery of justice, and better coordination between police and courts.

It also strengthens the rights of victims and ensures greater accountability of law enforcement agencies. By removing outdated procedures and simplifying processes, BNSS aims to create a more citizen-centric, accessible, and effective criminal justice system in India.
